Welcome to Copperfield

Welcome to our new website. We’ve moved and improved, listening to your suggestions and ideas. We always have and will continue to provide you with simple, well manufactured, and great quality products.

Copperfield has been based in St Albans since 1973 when the original founder saw something special in the crumbling building on the High Street, next to the St Albans famous Clock Tower. It was the estate agent showing him around who commented that the building was ‘like something from a Dickens novel’ that inspired our name. From there it grew into a menswear store bringing high end and fashionable brands to St Albans.

Harry, the present owner, had his first job working in Copperfield when only 17 years old. With a passion for clothing having driven him to answer the advert in the shop window, he was soon to be helping the previous owner with buying stock, and when 10 years later the founder retired, Harry bought the company. He immediately began turning it into what you see today; Harry has crafted Copperfield into a store that prides itself on its service and product. Copperfield’s ethos is based on simplicity and the eagerness to please the well curated lifestyle.

We’ve come a long way from the classic menswear and tailoring shop and have expanded by opening a new store in Canterbury. This expansion has allowed us to onboard and grow into an independent fashion and lifestyle brand showcasing goods from across the world. We have moved a long way from the archaic association of the founding name, we have evolved to elevate, educate, and connect people with products suited to their likeminded lifestyle. We drive to connect people’s cultural interests and will continue to research and improve our offering to fit our customers.

Our mixed collection of fashion and lifestyle brands from far and wide have taken many years to establish and procure, at Copperfield we pride ourselves in our global and almost unique mix of curated goods. A passion we will continue to build upon.

Japanese brand Snow Peak is a perfect example of an outdoor lifestyle brand we admire. Minimal yet expertly functional designs. Its innovative, functional, and high-quality processes continue to set the bar in adventure sportswear and accessories.

Gramicci is another brand representing the lifestyle of Copperfield, innovative climbing clothing and performance wear but also has some great pieces for casual day-to-day wear. Garments designed by Mike Graham, for the climber by the climber, technical wear designed specifically to climb boulders.

We also stock brands closer to home, in fact we stock a brand which is just around the corner from our Canterbury store. The Kent based Haeckels is the natural skincare and wild fragrance brand embracing the power of nature. Creating outdoorsy scents inspired by the landscape around us.

Carhartt WIP has become a customer favourite, especially in our Canterbury store. Their European division focusing on refining their classic workwear styles and adding some contemporary twists.

We are committed to showcasing brands from around the world, while this is just a taster of some of our brands, our website and stores has a whole plethora of global brands, from Europe to Asia, to America and Australia.

We’re always growing on our brands, currently we’re expanding our lifestyle and home ranges with new brands arriving soon. Keep a look out for stationary from Blackwing and Japanese lifestyle pieces from Kinto.
